The highs and lows of a GOHL season come at you fast. That was the reality for the Komoka Kings who went 1-1 over the weekend, splitting a pair of 4-2 hockey games.

Kings Best Nationals on Saturday Night

There was a different energy surrounding this Kings team entering action at the Komoka Wellness Centre on Saturday. Taking on the London Nationals, the Kings stepped onto home ice on the heels of a 5-1 win in Sarnia on Thursday.

The Kings were down, however after a second period marker by Sheldon Alexander.

The resilience level was high in this one, though, as Mathias Prud’homme-Foster’s first GOHL goal tied things up at one midway through the game.

Resolve Tested Once More

The Nats would take the lead again off the stick of Jack Samek in a second period that featured all goals scored on the man-advantage.

The Kings’ time to shine in this one was the third period.

Atley Rogers, Tristan Witmer and Jaden Switzer all scored to polish off a ‘W’ at home, the first of the season and the second Kings win in a row.

Rogers tied the game just minutes into the third. It wasn’t until the 17:39 mark, though, that Witmer brought the Wellness Centre crowd to their feet giving the home side the lead. The empty-net-goal from Switzer iced it, and Komoka skated away with a 4-2 victory Saturday.

Owen Bienstman in net for Komoka earned player of the game honors, making 21 stops in the victory.

Right Back to Work

The next day, Sunday September 20th, it was another battle at hand for the Kings. This time the Caledonia Corvairs were in town for an afternoon clash.

Despite a loss to the Corvairs by the same score with which they topped London, it was a night for hot sticks, as several Kings got on the board, adding to their goal totals for the young season.

Prud’Homme-Foster tickled twine again, joining Morgan Paine who grabbed his fourth of the season earlier in the contest.

Despite the tallies from Paine and Prud’Homme-Foster, an early 3-0 deficit in this one proved too tough to overcome. The Kings saw their record fall to 2-3 on the season. A familiar 4-2 final this time fell in the loss column.

Up next

The Kings enjoy some rest after a busy weekend before taking on the Woodstock Navy Vets on the road Friday night. They’ll return home the next evening to face the St. Thomas Stars at home.
